Today’s hotter track temperatures made it tough to get the tyre choice right during qualifying because the difference between the prime and the option rubber wasn’t big. I struggled on the softer of the two tyres during Q1, so I elected to set my Q2 time on the prime.

I’m a bit sad not to have made it into Q3 today, as I think we have a quick race car round here. But I still think I can have a good race from 12th place because the FW31 is very consistent over long runs. I’m working towards my first points’ finish of the season tomorrow.

As for events away from the racetrack today, I’ve had quite a bit of fun today. My press breakfast this morning was with various television and radio presenters, and we had a good time. There was lots of chat, but I guess that was inevitable because those people are paid to talk!

This afternoon I took part in a quiz about the British Grand Prix, which you’ll hear about on our team podcast next week. After that there was the autograph session with the fans, who went absolutely nuts. There aren’t many people in the grandstands this weekend, but those that have turned up are very passionate about F1 (and particularly about Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, I’ve seen the fan mail!). The drivers’ parade tomorrow could be good fun…
