That was another difficult race for me today. I made a good start, but got tangled up in the second-corner incident that took three cars out of the race and damaged my front-wing endplate. That necessitated an unscheduled pitstop at the end of lap one, after which my Spanish Grand Prix was heavily compromised. What’s made finishing 13th all the more disappointing, was that the pace of my FW31 was actually quite good.

Anyway, I didn’t have much time to dwell on the disappointment because a helicopter picked up me and my physio Nick Harris at 1830 and flew us to the Nou Camp to watch FC Barcelona play Villareal in La Liga. We were guests of Spanish TV broadcaster TV3 and had a great night because I’ve been a fan of Barca for years.

It was a brilliant game of football too. The final score was 3-3 and Barca had to play the last 15 minutes with only 10 men when Abidal was sent off. I think there was a great sense of disappointment in the crowd because everyone expected the team to wrap up La Liga, but the draw meant they now need to score one point from their final three matches to put the title beyond the reach of Real Madrid. I’m sure they’ll do it, but the champagne will have to wait.

I’m flying back to the UK on Monday, where I’ll return home to Oxford and start my preparations for the Monaco Grand Prix. It’s a very challenging race and one in which every driver wants to do well because it’s so famous. See you there!
