Nico's Bahrain Blog: Friday

Overall, we’ve had a good day. I ran with some new aero parts on my FW31 during practice and they felt good. We won’t find out how quick they are until tomorrow’s qualifying session, but I think we’ve definitely made a step forward. I want to say a big ‘thank you’ to the aero guys back at Grove because the car is more stable, which is important in Bahrain because it’s a heavy braking circuit.
The temperatures are really hot, as we expected, and I think the heat triggered the slightly strange question that I got from Italian TV station RAI this afternoon. They asked for my thoughts on “Slow Down London” week, which is taking place at the moment in the UK.
I’ve got to say that it’s a good thing. You have to slow down your life in order to enjoy it and it’s also important to be slow inside the car – but only in your mind. A driver needs everything to happen in slow motion to enable him to maximise the car’s potential; I think that’s one of the most important aspects of being a racing driver.
Now, though, it’s time to get back with the engineers and work out how we’re going to maximise the potential of the car for the remainder of the weekend. Let’s hope we have a good one.
