iWitness in Bahrain: Thursday

The AT&T Williams drivers flew straight to the Middle East after last weekend’s Chinese Grand Prix. Nico Rosberg flew to Bahrain, where he took the race team out to dinner on Tuesday night, while Kazuki Nakajima spent three days in Dubai. Kazuki’s trainer, Nick, made him play tennis every day for two hours wearing his race suit - we understand he spent the rest of the time locked in his hotel room hiding from Nick!
The team’s engineers, meanwhile, flew to Bahrain via Hong Kong. They were there for 24 hours and spent most of that time in the Lan Kwai Fong area, which, for those of you unaccustomed to the city, is where the late-night haunts are found. Ironically, there is no alcohol on sale at their hotel in Bahrain.
Oris sponsorship isn’t enough for our media manager Claire Williams. On the Monday after the Chinese Grand Prix, she prowled Shanghai’s markets in search of a deal and bought eight cheap watches. Classy girl, our Claire!
If we see David Coulthard staggering around the Bahrain paddock like a drunkard this weekend, we’ll know why. He was at the opening round of the Red Bull Air Races in Abu Dhabi last weekend and was taken for a ride in their two-seater stunt plane. We’re told that he pulled 8g at one point and is still feeling the after-effects now.
