iWitness in Shanghai: Saturday
19 October 08
Despite the disappointment of today’s qualifying session for AT&T Williams, one member of the team managed to raise a wry smile. Jonathan Eddles, who is Nico Rosberg’s data engineer, won a bet during the session, which meant that he no longer had to swim in the mosquito-ridden pond at the back of the Shanghai paddock. That’s a very good reason to smile!
The AT&T Williams marketing team was so excited by the prospect of some karaoke last night that they started dancing in the lift en route to the karaoke bar next to their hotel. Unfortunately, they pushed the limits of the lift too far and it became jammed between two floors. The guys had crawl out of the emergency hole on top of the lift – just like in the movies!
Juan Pablo Montoya might no longer be in Formula 1, but Colombia’s interest in the sport hasn’t diminished. Conceptual artist Federico Uribe, from Bogota, has unveiled a life-size sculpture of an F1 car that he’s made entirely from driving shoes. It took 250 pairs to complete and can be seen in the Hongyi Plaza, 299 East Nanjing Road, Shanghai.
AT&T Williams Head of Communications, Liam Clogger, continued his training for April’s London Marathon at the Shanghai International Circuit this evening. Despite the layer of smog hanging over the racetrack, he completed one lap of the 5.451km (3.387-mile) track in 23 minutes, coming home (a fair distance) ahead of account manager Nick Hayes.
