The conditions were really tough during qualifying today. Not only did you have to drive a perfect lap to get a good grid position, you had to get your strategy right as well. That meant avoiding traffic and timing your runs to when the track conditions were at their best.

Unfortunately, I really struggled with traffic and couldn’t find a clean lap during Q1. Everyone was on the track at the same time, which made the visibility very bad and I was very disappointed to end the session in 18th place. It will make my race tomorrow very difficult, but I’ll do my best.

Away from the racetrack, it’s been a busy day of PR functions. The team has a lot of guests at this race, which means I’ve had to do several trips to the Paddock Club and the merchandising stalls and I ended the day with a dinner. Still, I guess it comes with the territory of being an F1 driver – and is good preparation for my home race in Japan!
