Kazuki's Hungarian Blog: Sunday
Posted on Sunday 03 Aug 2008 and tagged with kazuki, hungary, blog.
From 16th on the grid, the Hungarian Grand Prix was always going to be a difficult race, and so it proved. I was stuck in traffic from start-to-finish, which meant I wasn’t able to demonstrate the true pace of the FW30.
A good strategic call from the pitwall, switching me from two stops to one, helped me to move up to 13th by the flag, but there’s not much else to say. The biggest drama of my race came during my pitstop on lap 32 when some spilt fuel caught fire as I pulled away from the box. I wasn’t worried, though, because I could barely see the flames in my mirrors and it quickly burnt out.
It’s now the three-week summer break, which gives me an opportunity to return to Japan for a few days. I haven’t been home since before the start of the season, so I’m looking forward to some home comforts and home cooking. I’ll then return to Europe the weekend before the European Grand Prix to enable me to spend time in the factory preparing for Valencia.
To go to a new track will be exciting for everyone in F1 and not least the drivers. There are so many questions: how long will it take to learn? What wing levels will we use? Brake cooling? Ah well, it gives me plenty to think about on the flight to Tokyo.
See you in three weeks.
