The French Grand Prix was a bit of a reality check for me. Two weeks ago in Canada I ran in second place for four laps, yet the highest I climbed during today’s race was 11th – and I drove as hard in France as I did in Canada!

Days like this are frustrating for everyone in the team, so we must try to work out what caused our problems and do our best to rectify them. We will begin that evaluation process at the Silverstone test next week, where I’m scheduled to drive on Thursday, and we hope to arrive at the British Grand Prix in two weeks time in better shape as a result.

I’ve only ever done one day of testing in an F1 car around Silverstone, so it will also be useful for me to get completely comfortable with the track’s layout before the British Grand Prix. The start of the lap is so fast that you need to be 100 percent confident to get the maximum from the car, and that comes with experience.

Prior to the test, however, I’m playing host to a crew from Fuji TV and a journalist from Asahi Shimbun at my home in Oxford. They want to experience my life in England, so I guess we should have a fry-up for breakfast, eat roast beef and Yorkshire pudding for lunch and go to the pub in the afternoon! Sadly, I’m not that rock ‘n’ roll and they’ll have to make do with me showing them around Oxford, which is a very beautiful city.
