iWitness in France: Friday
20 June 08
After an enjoyable motorcycle trip from England to Magny-Cours earlier in the week, Patrick Head was forced to swap from two wheels to four today. The battery on his BMW R1100S went flat overnight after he’d left his sidelights on, so he was forced to commandeer Frank Williams’ Merc for the journey to the track. Doh!
Returning from a one race ban following an injury, the team’s Press Officer, Claire Williams, continued the PR team’s global circuit-running challenge on Friday evening when she took to Magny-Cours in her trainers in the blistering evening heat. When iWitness asked for her lap time later, her watch had mysteriously stopped mid-run. Had she heard the talk of a Williams F1 group entry in next year’s London Marathon and wasn’t a willing participant?!
Nico Rosberg takes his footie seriously, both on and off the pitch. On it, he trains regularly with his local side in Monaco and plays for Michael Schumacher’s All Stars XI; off it, he’s keeping a close eye on Germany’s progress in Euro2008. So close, in fact, that he cancelled a scheduled barbecue at his motorhome on Thursday evening to focus on the Germany-Portugal game. We bet he wished he hadn’t when his team emerged victorious!
There’s no sign of Nelson Piquet Snr at Magny Cours this weekend. The triple World Champion – and former Williams F1 driver – has been told by Renault F1 boss Flavio Briatore to steer clear of the races in an effort to help Nelson Jnr focus on his driving. Who’s the daddy now?
