iWitness in Monaco: Thursday
22 May 08
Nico Rosberg played a lot of football as a boy, so it was apt that he made his first appearance for Michael Schumacher’s ‘F1 Allstars’ team at home in Monaco. He was “very instrumental” in the team’s 4-0 victory over Prince Albert’s XI, although he didn’t score a goal.
Kazuki Nakajima didn’t play for the F1 Allstars, but he loves footie and watched the Champions League final between Manchester United and Chelsea with the Williams marketing team on Wednesday. If you’re reading this, Frank or Patrick, you should know that he didn’t join in the drinking frenzy that followed the whistle at full-time!
Tim ‘peg-leg’ Newton is still hobbling about this weekend, two weeks after spraining his ankle at the Turkish Grand Prix. He damaged it while coming to the rescue of Kazuki Nakajima, when the Japanese driver’s motorcycle out-rider was involved in a road accident (see iWitness, Turkey). Ironically, the motorcyclist suffered fewer injuries than Tim!
Talking of shunts, former Williams F1 driver Mark Webber had to scrape his mate Morris Denton off the Monaco asphalt earlier in the week after Morris was hit by a car while out for a bike ride. “He looked like he’d been shot,” said Mark, “with open wounds in his arms and legs, and his helmet had spun round facing the wrong way.” We’re glad to report that Morris was spotted walking around the F1 paddock today.
