With Liam Clogger not at the Spanish Grand Prix, he passed the baton for his 2008 global marathon to Claire Williams. She ran the 2.8-mile Circuit de Catalunya in 28 minutes, along with AT&T Wiliams’ account manager Nick Hayes. “Sticky and sore” was how she described her condition afterwards!

Nick then headed straight to the Amber Lounge in downtown Barcelona. Saturday night was ladies night, he explained to iWitness, so it was a good place for a single man to be seen.

The drivers are the stars of the AT&T Williams show, but Kazuki Nakajima’s Spanish race engineer, Xevi Pujolar, has become something of a celebrity in Spain, featuring in several newspapers. “While Silverstone is the team’s home race,” says Xevi, “this is mine. I enjoy it very much.”

Italian journalist Giorgio Piola, who specialises in technical drawings, celebrates his 600th Grand Prix this weekend. To mark the occasion, AT&T Williams technical director Sam Michael presented him with a piece of bodywork. “Congratulations, Giorgio,” read a message from the team’s engineering director Patrick Head. “During your career you have noted changes that often we would rather you did not!”
