Thursday iWitness at Hockenheim

With Tim Newton soon to be overseeing production at AT&T Williams’ Grove HQ, it’s time to say welcome back to Dickie Stanford as our team manager. Dickie was last in charge of the race team in 2005, although he put in an appearance at this year’s Bahrain Grand Prix to run Damon Hill’s 1996 Championship-winning FW18 for a demonstration. The food in the motorhome has got even better while you’ve been away, Dickie!Rubens Barrichello has won 11 grands prix, so he knows how to beat the best drivers in the world. But none of those victories appeared to give him as much satisfaction as beating the Stig on BBC1’s Top Gear two weeks ago. Rubens arrived at Hockenheim today wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with “I beat the Stig”. Some say… that the Stig won’t be too chuffed!
Sebastian Vettel wowed more than 120,000 fans in his hometown of Heppenheim last weekend. He drove one of Red Bull Racing’s RB5s through the streets and did so many doughnuts that we’re told he broke his car!
While Seb was in Heppenheim, another of this year’s world title protagonists was in Brisighella in northern Italy last weekend. Lewis Hamilton made the trip to the picturesque town near Imola to pick up the Lorenzo Bandini award, which has been won in the past by Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen and his McLaren team-mate Jenson Button.
