A final load of new parts landed in Bahrain at 6am this morning. The AT&T Williams mechanics worked incredibly hard to get the updates onto the cars in time for final practice, before welcoming the start of qualifying – and the parc fermé rules – because it meant they were no longer permitted to update the cars. After a string of 20-hour days, everyone’s heading for an early bed tonight.

Rubens Barrichello revealed today that he was given some invaluable advice before leaving home earlier in the week. His eight-year-old son’s parting words were: “Remember to save fuel, dad”. Good thoughts, Eduardo. Do you want a job at AT&T Williams?

The 18 world champions present in Bahrain were pulled together for a group photoshoot this afternoon. Unfortunately, it didn’t pan out as the organisers had hoped because Alain Prost and Michael Schumacher were late. They had to be shot separately and added to the shot using Photoshop.

At the first pre-season test in February, Michael Schumacher said he felt like he did when he started out in F1. How funny that he should qualify seventh for his comeback race, which is where he qualified for his grand prix debut back in ’91.
