Nico's Sao Paulo Blog: Saturday

My car was awesome in the wet today and that showed on the stopwatch during qualifying. I was fastest in Q1 and Q2, having switched to intermediate tyres at exactly the right time in Q2, and if the track had stayed wet in Q3 I’m sure I’d be starting tomorrow’s race from pole position.
As it was, we didn’t have the necessary pace when the track started to dry out in Q3 and I will line up in seventh place tomorrow. Whereas other cars improved their lap times as the track dried out, my times tailed off when it mattered as my intermediates went off.
I’m praying for rain in the race because the FW31 is clearly more competitive in the wet. I’m told there’s a 60 percent chance of rain between 2pm and 4pm tomorrow and if it materialises success will depend on making the right choices at the right time. As a driver, you feel pretty isolated when you’re in the cockpit, so I’ll be relying heavily on the pitwall. They made a great call for intermediates today, so I have every confidence that they’ll get it right tomorrow as well.
My prediction? A good haul of points...
