Nico's Singapore Blog - Friday

I don’t think the organisers cleaned the track ahead of today’s on-track running because the circuit was very dusty and slippery when we first went out. That made it very difficult to learn anything during the first 1.5-hour session because grip levels improved literally every lap and there was no point in changing the set-up of the car.The track became more representative in session two, so we started working on the car and made quite a lot of progress. My fastest lap was two seconds faster than in session one and it was nice to end the day inside the top 10. However, we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out exactly where we are in the order.
One of the high points of my day came courtesy of German TV station RTL, who interviewed me on the Singapore Flyer. At 165m it’s the world’s highest observation wheel and we got a fantastic view of the circuit and the city from the top. One circuit of the wheel took 30 minutes, which gave us plenty of time to film and enjoy the ride.
There’s not much else to report from today, except that I’m having a great time in Singapore. The city reminds me of Monaco in a lot of ways because it’s relatively small, very safe and they are always building! Several new skyscrapers have sprung up since last year and from my room in the Ritz Carlton I can see lots of cranes building on reclaimed land in the distance.
Kind of makes me wonder what a night race in Monaco would be like
