With just a few days left until the closing date, the Philips Driving Academy competition to drive an AT&T Williams Formula One car is still wide open...
The fastest ten entrants to complete the Philips Driving Academy online ‘test track’ by September 20th will win an expenses-paid trip to the UK to take part in an on-track assessment in various types of race cars. The top three will be appraised by AT&T Williams Technical Director, Sam Michael, at the team’s Oxfordshire HQ, with the winner earning five laps at Silverstone in one of the team’s recent cars.
AT&T Williams driver, Nico Rosberg, said: “When you first drive a Formula One car you just cannot believe the power and the speed. Last year’s winner from Sweden took the car to speeds of over 300kph around the Algarve Motor Park. This is an amazing competition and will be a real thrill for the winner.”
Patrick Overwijk, Sponsorship Manager at Philips Consumer Lifestyle, added: “The competition has had a fantastic response. Lap times in the online Philips Driving Academy are falling day by day so competition for the top ten places is really hotting up. This proves that entrants are really practicing their skills and that we will discover a number of men or women who have what it takes to drive the AT&T Williams car. There are just a few days left to enter the competition and the current top ten threshold is a sub – 1:13:40 lap time. All ten places are still up for grabs so we wish all entrants the best of luck!”
Competition details are as follows:
1. Entry:
- Visit the Philips Driving Academy at www.philips.com/attwilliams
- Register your details and set your own ‘hotlap’ on the specifically designed Philips test track
- The closing date for the competition is 20th September 2009
2. The prize:
- The ten fastest entrants from around the world will win an all-expenses paid trip to the UK to compete in an assessment day
- The third placed finalist will get to drive a sports car around the track with instruction from Kazuki Nakajima
- The second placed finalist will practice the track in a sports car (as above) and then get to drive an F2 car for five laps of the circuit
- The overall winner will practice the circuit in both the sports car and F2 car, receive a one-to-one briefing from Kazuki Nakajima and then drive a Williams FW29 for five laps of the Silverstone national circuit
Following the success of last year’s competition, Philips is committed to getting people closer to Formula One and putting them in the driving seat – literally in this case.
