It felt strange to have a three week break in the calendar at this stage of the season. We’d only just hit our stride following the start of the European season and suddenly we were faced with an extra week off between races.

But I’ll always welcome a short holiday and I took the opportunity to visit the fjords of Norway with a friend. I’d never visited the country before and found the people to be very friendly and the country to be stunningly beautiful. Given that the weather’s been nice in England recently, Norway felt surprisingly cool: the temperature gauge dropped close to freezing at night and warmed up to only the mid-teens during the day.

Last weekend, though, I was back in the English sunshine when I went to the Goodwood Festival of Speed. I drove an FW29 (2007) up the hill and had a fun time. The British fans love all forms of motorsport and Frank Williams also celebrated his 40th year in motorsport, so there was a lot going on.

As for the German Grand Prix, it’s going to be my first F1 race at the Nurburgring. I raced at the track a lot in the junior formulas and one of the most important lessons I learnt was that you have to keep one eye on the weather all the time. The forecast isn’t good for the weekend, with rain and unseasonably cool temperatures welcoming us, so perhaps it was a good thing that I went to Norway in the break to acclimatise!
