RBS Dragon Boat Race
Prior to arriving for the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix, AT&T Williams team partner, The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) Group, marked the arrival of the team in Singapore with a series of activities involving three-times Formula One World Champion and RBS ambassador, Sir Jackie Stewart; and the only Asian driver on the circuit, Kazuki Nakajima.
The main event saw Sir Jackie Stewart and Kazuki Nakajima row down the Singapore River with members of the Singapore national dragon boat team. Dragon boat racing is one of the oldest sports in Asia and was therefore the ideal way for the team to celebrate the launch of Formula One in Singapore.
RBS employs 2,400 staff in Singapore and runs a full suite of banking services encompassing corporate and institutional banking, private banking, retail banking, corporate finance and transaction banking.
Before embarking on his trip down the river, Sir Jackie met with 60 parents and children from the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS) earlier in the day. Sir Jackie, who is the President of Dyslexia Scotland, is a strong advocate of the benefits of early recognition of Dyslexia. During the two-hour session, Sir Jackie shared his personal experience of not having been diagnosed with Dyslexia during his childhood and the stigma he faced growing up. Today, Sir Jackie with his unique blend of sporting pedigree and entrepreneurial acumen provides a unique partnership for RBS as he is an embodiment of the “make it happen” philosophy that is embedded within the RBS culture. RBS capped off the series of activities with an exclusive gala cocktail at the Old Supreme Court.
